Dan Miller is Managing Director and co-founder of The Roda Group, a venture capital firm focused on climate solutions. He is also Senior Advisor to Starshot Capital, an early-stage climate-focused venture fund and he serves on the Investment Advisory Committee of PRIME Coalition’s Azolla Fund. Previously, Dan was president and board member of Ask Jeeves (now Ask.com) and served on the boards of several successful former Roda affiliates, including PolyServe (acquired by HP), SightSpeed (acquired by Logitech), and Solazyme (IPO in 2011). Before co-founding The Roda Group, Dan was Executive Vice President at TCSI Corporation, a telecommunications software provider he co-founded with his Roda partner Roger Strauch, and he began his career as a satellite systems engineer at Hughes Aircraft’s (now Boeing) Space and Communications Group, where he helped design Australia’s first communications satellite, AUSSAT, as well as the early designs for the DirecTV satellite.
Beyond venture capital, Dan is deeply involved in climate advocacy and education. He was a board member and president of the Chabot Space & Science Center’s Foundation where he helped develop Bill Nye’s Climate Lab for kids. Dan has spoken widely on climate change, including at the COP15 conference in Copenhagen, his TEDx talk is recognized as one of the top climate videos by The Sanders Institute and others, and he is host of the Climate Chat YouTube channel. Mr. Miller was a member of the Biden-Harris energy and environment policy committee prior to the 2020 election and he has collaborated with climate scientist James Hansen on carbon pricing policy. Dan holds degrees in electrical engineering from Cornell and Stanford and has three patents in compression and wireless communications technology.
